SPOTLIGHT ON

LORRIE MORGAN & THE GATLIN BROTHERS

Story and Photos by Glenda S. Paradee

Lorrie Morgan and The Gatlin Brothers performed at the Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona on May 4, 2024.

Lorrie opened her show with her big hits, "Watch Me" and "What Part of No" to an enthusiastic crowd.

Morgan said she was glad to be in Arizona and playing with the Gatlin Brothers and that this is her Ruby Anniversary Tour 2024.  She named her tour that because she has been a member of the Grand Ole Opry for 40 years.  She was inducted on June 9, 1984.  Lorrie invited everyone in the audience to go visit the Grand Ole Opry.  She said that is where she met most of her friends.  Her Dad, George Morgan, was a member and when Lorrie was a little girl, she used to stand on the side of the stage to watch him perform.

Morgan said that back in the 80's she was a backup singer for George Jones. It was during the "No Show Jones" days.  She said it was a great learning experience.  She then performed the George Jones hit, "A Picture Of Me (Without You).

Morgan took some time to talk to all the ladies in the audience.  She said as she is getting older now, she has found so many hairs to pluck from her chin, not just peach fuzz, but actual whiskers.  She really got a laugh out of the audience.  Morgan told the females to just embrace getting older and not to fight it, enjoy the finer things in life as there is nothing we can do about it.

Lorrie then mentioned that she loved the Beach Boys and she really enjoyed collaborating with them on their Stars and Stripes Vol. 1 album.  She then sang the Beach Boys song, "Don't Worry Baby".

Lorrie said that her new single just came out today, May 3, 2024.  Then she said it is really dry here in Arizona and she had to get a drink out of her shiny sparkling cup.  Someone yelled something from the audience and Lorrie said, "I don't know what you said, but I think I like it".  She got roaring laughter from the crowd.  Morgan then went into her new single "Dead Girl Walking".  It's a great new song.  Lorrie's new album of the same title will be released later this year.

Morgan then sang another new song from her upcoming new album called "Almost Called Him Baby", that was written by Larry Gatlin.

Morgan concluded her show singing her beautiful song, her mega hit, "Something in Red".

Morgan's band was great. They are called The Good Boy Band.  The band consists of Becky Priest (keys and harmony vocals), Dave Dunseath (drums and harmony vocals), Morgan Smith (bass guitar and harmony vocals) and Todd Woolsey (lead guitar, acoustic guitar, saxophone, harmony vocals and band leader).

It was a wonderful show with awesome music and history, laughs and the one and only Lorrie Morgan.  Lorrie looked and sounded beautiful.

THANKS FOR THE MUSIC LORRIE!

    THE GATLIN BROTHERS

The Gatlin Brothers, Larry, Steve, and Rudy, also put on a great show.

The brothers started off their show singing the Star-Spangled Banner.  Everyone in the audience got up and sang it with them.

They mentioned that it is their 69th year anniversary touring together.

They sang many of their hits including "Houston", "Bitter They Are, Harder they Fall", "I Just Wish Your Were Someone I Love", "Broken Lady" and "All The Gold in California".  They also sang their new song "Fair Winds". It is a wonderful song.

The Gatlin Brothers still have what it takes.  They put on a fantastic show.
